Join us at the Michael Kudish Natural History Preserve for a
Hike with Mike!
We are pleased to host the fall meeting of the New York Nut Growers Association (NYNGA) on On Saturday October 28th. From 9:30 am to noon, Dr. Kudish will lead an interpretive tour of the preserve and Karl VonBerg, (Watershed Agricultural Council Forester (WAC)) will discuss the best practices for growing healthy nut trees.
In the afternoon, lunch presentations will be held at the Stamford United Methodist Church hall located at 88 Main Street.
Larry Hepner, consulting agronomist/soil scientist, owner of La Basse Cour Farm in South Kortright, and Professor of Agronomy & Environmental Science Emeritus Delaware Valley University, will discuss using Web Soil Surveys to determine the suitability of soils at the site for planting nut and fruit trees.
There will be additional presentations on the nutritional and health value of nuts; on-going NYNGA projects; the new WAC website; and post-harvest procedures for nuts. Top it all off with a sample tasting and discussion of this season’s nut crops.
